Simply put stigmergy is a cause and effect way of monitoring and "communicating" with insects. I dont think it gets much simpler than that.

Ok so I decided Im going to do my final paper on Opus Dei. I think. They're this really well radical catholic group. My interest in them stems from the DaVinci Code, which itself is under some scrutiny right now. Opus Dei is a pretty interesting little entity. They are referred to as a cult a lot and that's pretty much how I see them. I actually kinda look forward to writing this now, minus the fact that I still don't know if i can write that much.

We have nothing due today in terms of blogging so heres this.
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

--Rudyard Kipling
Thats my favorite poem, its got some good messages, just thought I'd share it.

I will be honest. I didn't read the Communist Manifesto. I don't want to. I'd rather write my blog about how communism effected my family. My father grew up in Castro's Cuba. Castro took over after Batista and has reigned supreme ever since. At first things were looking good and Castro promised in due time that there would be open elections. That was nearly a half century ago. Castro's government tore my father's family apart. In 1963 the government allowed my father to come to this country with his mother, grandmother, and brother. His father was forced to stay behind and this would ultimately be the cause of my grandparents divorce. My father came to this country with no money only the clothes on his back and would grow up financially strapped. His uncle was in jail for six years for trying to escape. His family was only released to this country very recently. My father can not visit his home country for fear of not being allowed to leave (not to mention the trade embargo). In 1990 Cuba suffered an economic collapse after the Soviets withdrew their aid (4-6 billion dollars annually) and they are still recovering today. Communism does not work and will never work, I don't need to read their manifesto to tell you that.

Proposal paper eh. I think I got that one. Steroids is something I know a fair amount about and something I'm interested in. I think I can write a pretty good paper on that. I can still remember the day that I was offered steroids. I won't lie it wasn't as easy as I thought it would (and should have been) for me to say no. As a wrestler and a football player strength was beyond important. Would one cycle really do that much damage to me? I mean the gains can be phenomenal. Would it really have been cheating when I personally know so many kids that I am competing against are juicing? In the end I said no. I had to. I considered myself a leader and as a leader I needed to set an example. That would be one of the worst examples I could have set for my team-mates and my little brother. I think that's one of the reasons I am so interested in the issue, because I was almost part of the issue. When it comes down to it steroids are harmful to your body and they are illegal, two things that can not be overlooked.

So we talked about our final paper today. I have no idea what I am going to write about. How the hell am I going to write that much? I like to think of myself as a fairly good writer but its not always my favorite thing to do. I get very easily distracted when I write unless I'm "in the zone." When I get in the zone my writing just flows and I can bang out a paper in no time. Hopefully when I start this projext I get in the zone and stay there.

ACAPULCO! Thats right. Spring break was awesome. Mexico was awesome. I cant wait to go back next year. I seriously recommend that all college students go to Spring Break. It is so much fun and so worth it. I spent all of my money, currently there is under three (thats 3) dollars in my bank account and i dont care, I'd do it all over again. Viva Mexico!

I am the most un-political person you will ever meet. I never know what is going on in politics. This probably isn't a good thing and I'm not to happy about it. I wasn't old enough to vote in the last presidential election and that was probably a good thing because I did not know either candidates stances. If I had to categorize myself as either conservative or liberal I guess I would be a liberal, but I don't really know. I don't think it really matter what you are, in the end it matters how you vote. Someone like me well I could go either way in an election, and I probably would have voted for Bush because for some reason I just didn't like Kerry. So in the end does it really matter what I am if I don't vote that way? I guess it does but for now I'm just fine being Alberto. Maybe I'll start my own party that would be cool.

The genocide in Rawanda was a terrible thing. I see all of these third world countries that gain independence and fall apart. I am so thankful that after we gained our independence we set up such a strong and stable government. Can you imagine what things would be like if we had militant groups running rampant in the U.S.? In State College? Being recruited, captured, or killed? That is a horrible way to live. There is so much criticizm of out government, look around people be thankful that we have a fully functioning government.

HAHAHA Kem moved our paper! Im so happy. Now I can put it off some more, great. No honestly I'm almost done with it and now I have more time to revise it. WOOOO. Thanks Kem.

The Declaration of Independence. Wow. It is quite possibly the most profound and most important document ever written in the United States of America. Our whole foundation is based on that one document. And obviously since we are reading it, it has one hell of an argument. It is the argument about why we deserved to be free from the oppressive rule of Great Britain. Tyranny and mis-represantation no more. With out this document we would be making fun of Tony Blair instead of George W. The document allowed us to separate from Britain and to start our war for independence. The Declaration of Independence is a great document and I love it.

What makes a great wrestler? Lets break it down. Great; remarkable or outstanding in magnitude, degree, or extent. To wrestle; to contend by grappling and attempting to throw or immobilize one's opponent, especially under contest rules. So many different factors make a wrestler who they are. When you step on the mat you become a totally different person, an animal. Every wrestler has their own style, their own moves, their own personality. A certain transformation is made by those who choose a life on the mat, I plan to take a look into this transformation and find out exactly what makes this transformation successful or unsucessful. Balance, speed, power? Attitude, determination, dedication? Coaching and technique? What is most important? How have the best combined these to rise to the top? Utilizing my experiences as both a spectator and as a fan, along with various sources (most of which are written by those considered the best) I will define a great wrestler.

2/7/06 Proposal Comment by AfterYou

So I really think you have something here, simply because you were obviously a wrestler, therefore this is a topic that interests you and one that you know much about. Now my first comment is that I'm not sure you should be defining the term "Great wrestler" because 'great' is one of the watchwords. I could be wrong but you may want to check on that. Another comment I wanted to make is that I feel only fellow wrestlers would be able to make counter arguments to this proposal, since anyone else that reads your paper will not have prior wrestling experience to argue about your statements.

Bush's State of the Union speech was exactly what this country needed after 9/11. I remember watching the broadcast myself when I was in the ninth grade. He delivers a powerful message. We will not back down. He lets the American people know that the government is there and doing what needs to be done, and he lets the rest of the world know that we will not go down without a fight. Bush's neigh-sayers like to argue that he isn't a good leader. I disagree. Look at the way he handled 9/11. No hesitation. The American people were united in a way that was not seen since the "Day that Will Live in Infamy," December 7, 1941. A people united is a very powerful tool, and that only made President Bush's speech that much stronger. That speech was exactly what the nation needed to hear.

FDR's speech was very strong and moving. He was a terrific orrator and I am happy I chose to listen to the speech while I read. Roosevelt was appealing to the congress and to the American people to be weary of the dictator nations and asking them to be ready to do what was necessary to maintain the American way. He was making an argument of character in more than one way. First he was asking America to put their trust into their leader, asking that they stand behind him, support him and he would do all that he could. Secondly and I think more important he argued about the character of America. He recalled times when our nation has had to defend itself and come to the aid of others. He explained how our way of life was threatened by the war overseas. It is here in this aspect of his argument that he would have captured his audience, and he is a wise man for seeing that.

The USA Today Snapshot for January 20 showed the median single family home price for different regions of the country with the prices reported in the thousands. Coming in at the top was the west with a median price at $322. In a far second was the northeast at $241 almost one hundred thousand dollars less. The south and midwest are at $194 and $168 respectively. Three things that can be inferred from this snapshot:

1)It is much cheaper to live in the midwest than in the west.
2)Because of its demographics home prices in the west may be inflated.
3)There is a greater market for home sellers in the west.

Personally writing doesn't bother me and at times I think I can actually write quite well. I am on aim 24/7 and I'm always checking Facebook. Im interested in football, wrestling, golf and any competitive sport really. I am from Oradell, NJ and I have lived in New Jersey all of my life. I love it here in Happy Valley and I couldn't wait to get back from Christmas break. Right now I am in DUS but I am hoping to switch into Kines by the end of next year. I am pretty outgoing and I can be fairly loud at times so don't be afraid to tell me to shut up. Who's narrative did I rewrite?

I won't lie when I saw how long the letter by Dr. King was I was a not happy that I had to read it. However I'm happy that I did. Doctor King was possibly a man ahead of his time. His work is so critical to the way we live today, and I think we sometimes forget that. How often do we remember the contributions of some of the minority leaders of our times? There is MLK Day and Black History Month but how quickly do we turn around and forget about them? Doctor King's arguments or rationalizations were near flawless, between citing past philosophers and past debacles and through appealing to his critics feelings he may have been able to move even the most racist segregationists. We could all learn a lot from Doctor King.

My Personal Narrative. In class we talked about things about us that were interesting so I'll start with that. I am Cuban. I quite possible could be the whitest kid in our class but I'm Cuban, my father was born and raised in Havana and came to this country in 1963. I'm from northern New Jersey and I live over in Snyder. In highschool I wrestled and played football and here I'm on the club wrestling team and I'm a pledge in Alpha Sig. Anyone thinking about pledging? I don't have any reservations about putting my name here, most people call me Berto hence "BertosBlog." That about sums it up.
