In our modern society, physical appearance is key to a good presentation of one’s self. Hair style, clothing choice, and jewelry all affect a first impression, but none of these factors have the emphasis that body shape has in our society. This has caused a craze to have an "ideal body". However, I plan to concentrate more on one's thoughts of their own body, or one's self-image. I hope to find the psychological reasons for those with a high self image, and those who suffer from terrible self-images. Being that self-image can force on into hurting themselves as far as anorexia or bulemia, it is an extremely important topic. This subject is crucial to understand in today's society where the ideal waist-line continues to get smaller.

This situation could be improved by understanding healthy body types better. People should be educated on what is truly obese. If the average American understood what healthy is, they would not strive for an underweight shape. Also, the media needs to be pressured into using more “life like” models. As a nation, we must pressure our media into using more realistic proganda. I hope through my paper to enourage everyone to think more about what a healthy body is, instead of an unreachable ideal body.

I think this is a great topic to do the paper on. Body image is a huge concern among college students so it is very relivant. It seems like it is going to be a really interesting paper. I didn't know that the waist size kept getting smaller though. I thought that it was actually getting bigger for the ideal waist size. Media influence is a good way to take this paper. Maybe you could go into other aspects of what makes someone anorexic or bulemic.- SteffyLynn

I also think this is a really good topic to do your paper on because it really affects everyone in society especially here. I think it will be interesting how your paper turns out. I think you should do some research on all the new adds from dove that use "real" people with different sizes and shapes and see what effects these adds have on society. Also, I think you should put statistics about eating disorders here at penn state so you can really relate to your audience (us). - JenLo
