Woo Hoo slash...WHAAAAT! first year is ALREADY done, at this rate, I may have to go on the five year plan! Shoot, it's all going by WAY too fast! NO WAY JOSE
Easter weekend is comming...Pittsburgh or Boston or West Chester?
Geez, am I ever going to learn how to make decisions? Probably not...
A Modest Proposal it is, well, in the sarcastic sense, heehee. Funny the way the author was able to use humor about such an serious, very much humor'less' topic. I suppose that making it a satire piece using such sad truth, brings it to attention evenmore. This piece, I remember reading back in high school, and it was very true that at first, the shock which came over me thinking, how sick is this going to get? is this forreal? Hah, it did take a bit long for it to "hit me." When it finally did, it was able to give a small smile about it. However, since it is such a sad and serious topic, it was not THAT funny. Though, it executed it's job well, be simlpy brining the ISSUE to attention.
Another month has passed...two and counting. Question is, what the heck are we going to do when summer comes...that is going to be quick an interesting challenge in this relationship.
I watched an episode of FRIENDS the other day, from the very first season, and in this episode, Rachel asks Ross his opinion. She tells him how with Barry, the husband she left at the alter, that it was just good friendship but now passion, and with her fling Paulo, there was just passion. So Rachel asks Ross, is it immpossible to have both? Is it immpossible to have a best friend that can also make your toes curl?
It is an interesting question. But what if you feel like you have found that type of person for you? Is that it, is that where you stop? Hold on and don't let go, or still keep an open mind? Who knows what changes time will bring. It is indeed an interesting question, a question I find myself in the proccess of investigating.
Fair Trade is What We Want
A phenomenon known as the coffee crisis is currently taking place. Farmers in coffee growing regions have lost their jobs; their entire livelihood. The coffee crisis describes a situation where coffee prices have drastically declined. According to Kim Bendheim’s article in The New York Times on November 3, 2002, it has been a decrease of nearly 70% in the last five years. In places like Central America, coffee farming had become part of family tradition, and now, this once stable, prosperous business is beginning to leave those who procured it, in total desecration. Although this seems like a problem that is beyond our management, we can improve the coffee crisis situation through the promotion of a system called fair trade to replace the current free trade.
The wonderful free trade which has brought our economy great prosperity, has left smaller nations in the dark, forgotten, and underpaid. It has pulled wealth towards its initiator, and poverty to everyone on the outskirts. A more equitable system called Fair Trade should be implemented. Although it will bring its monetary costs, the benefits of this plan are priceless.

So, social ranks...it is true that it appears to be unfair, and a better idea to make it so that everyone is more equal, social wise-and that is the idea of communism, 'community'. However, there is some sort of heirarchy EVERYWHERE in the world...in nature, in everything. There is a definate hierarchy in the food chain, but also, within a single line of the food chain, in other words, within a single group of animals, a single species. Monkeys have the king, head monkey, bees have a queen be and so on, it is a natural occurance. When attempts are made to erase these boundries, these natural seprations, it is going against our animalistic instinct to have that hierarchy, and anytime we go against nature, things just don't seem to work out so well. This is why, communism does not really work, everyone is not happy, there really is no such thing. It's life, life is hard, if you are a worker aunt, or worker human, it is life.
SSSSSPPPPPRRRRRIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG BBBBBRRRRREEEEEAAAAAAKKKKKKK!!!!!!!
So close to home! Stat project kicking my ass. It's due upon returning to campus, BUT here is the issue...how are we supposed to work on a group project outside of class, during spring break, when we are ALL home, and do not have access to MINITAB the very system we use in lab, and are supposed to utilize in order to complete this project. How are we supposed to figure out statistical significance for various surveys without the system that we learned to use TO figure it out? I AM SO FRUSTERATED!!!
Cannot believe we are already in MARCH. February JUST started. Geez time flies, especially when you have a hundred exams. February was crazy exam month for me and I am so glad that it is finally over, and spring break, hopefully, means that I will have a chance to catch my breath. Today my back is peeling. My smart ass decided to go tanning on Friday, and of course since my last time in the sun was sometime in October or November, I got completly burnt. My back, in particular, from brush burn on already burnt skin during cheerleading on sunday and monday, was the number one affected spot. Tonight I have practice again, and I do not know what will happen. My skin is peeling, and I think that brush burn on brand new skin which is delicate and sensitive will only be bad news for my back. We shall see what will happen tonight.
AHH definetly have an Anatomy practical today! Study study study. Know the muscles of the human body, their actions, and their origins and insertions. It NUTS man. But it should be ok since all you have to do is memorize, and as long as you can memorize, you should be ok, and so far in my memorization history, I have been pretty good at it. Should be ok.
So after the exam, I have to go to the HUB where there will be another memorization testing thing, I am going to have to take a quiz on Sigma Alpha insignia, and the greek alphabet, and the five founders, and I definetly do not have time to study for this considering that my anatomy exam is for sure the number one on my list at this time. Oh well, as soon as tuesday is over, it's cruising into spring break for me! .:..:..:.Can't.:..:.Wait!!.:..:..:.
RITENOUR Appt. guess what time? 8:30 AM! Yes ladies and gentlemen, that is how early my monday will begin. Yes, and I must arrive 10 minutes early to fill out paper work. And I am so bad at being on time, who knows how I am going to do this. And last night, we had cheerleading practice till after 11pm, so by the time I was asleep, it was probably after midnight. I just cannot seem to get a full eight hours here at pennstate. Spring break is starting to look better and better.
Sigma Alpha is having an 80's Social! Oh yeah...rock out. It is going to be so much fun. Me Jackie and Christi are going to the goodwill store and wal-mart to get 80's outfits together for tonight! Should be really fun...I have never been to an 80's social so I am very very excited. I can't wait to dress up!
AHHH Stat 200 exam today...not good, that class is so hard and makes no sence. I have no clue what I am doing in it, and I feel like our instructor does not really teach us all that much. We just get slides in lecture and then do labs on our own. All we have to refer to are out slides and the book, which I do not even have since I have gone to rough money saving route of not buying books this semester. All I do is borrow borrow borrow. From the Library and friends. What am I going to do during finals? Hmm. That is something I am going to have to think about. Anyhow, today I decided to join Sigma Alpha. It is a proffesional sorority in the agricultural sector of majors. Though I am in nursing, somehow I can still do this. Two other girls from cheerleading are doing it too. The two clubs overlap at times, and the three of us must leave meetings early and sometimes come late. But they say that it is ok, and that they encourage Sigma Alphas to be in other groups as well. So so far so good.
OOOOooooooooooooooook. So, it have officially been a month! Officially, but I must say that since the whole knowing eachother slash chillin thing has been happening since I would say November, it sure feels like it has been much much longer than that.
So, it is time for another workshop. I am thinking that eventually the whole class is going to have to be there because we only get two or three free absences, therefore, when everyone is out, they are going to have to come to the workshop with their rough draft and for once, maybe, the whole entire class will be there. I kind of wish that the workshops were more helpful...I feel like if the classmate that is reading your paper does not really care, or is not in the mood to really think into it, or revise it, then he or she is not going to give the writer very insightful, or meaningful feedback.
THON at it's amazement. There from 12 till the end today. It was really something, I cannot believe that the total raised was over $4 million...being there was such a spine tingling experience and I am thinking about some day dancing, although it does seem beyond me how people can actually do it. It seems so impossible, yet so inspirational at the same time, so I believe that if I can do it, than anything is possible! The kids were so cute, we laughed we cried, cried more, though happy tears, it was truly an unreal experience and an unreal weekend. Let's Go State, For The Kids!!!!! <3 .f.o.r.e.v.e.r. <3
Hybrid cars are the way to go. In other words, hybrid cars are a great choice for those who are looking to buy a new or used vehicle for travel, especially in the city! These cars are a great way to help reduce pollution, they have great gas mileage, and are a better choice then just going all the way electric, or staying with the usual gas powered. The meaning of the word hybrid is the blending of two different components. This can be virtually anything, and in a hybrid car, this blending is the combination of two or more sources of power (http://www.realtechnews.com/posts/1850). The combination of a gas and electric draws out the pros of both types of engines and therefore, the result you get is the best of both worlds vehicle. It is much like the genetic engineering of food, ie fruit to make it bigger and more desease resistant. The gas engine performs better than electric at high speeds, however the gas uses more fuel at low speeds. In a hybrid, the electric helps out at low speeds (and in traffic) by using less fuel and releasing less smog-creating emissions, while the gas kicks in on the highway, when you want to feel the power so-to-speak.

__The Declaration of Independence__'s soul purpose is to illustrate everything the king does to the colonists that is blatenly unjust. It discusses how the king has overrun the colony's self governing bodies, how it imposed an unnecessary tax on imported and exported goods, how it has Britian's troops stationed throughout the colonies and the way that the king obviously lets those troops mistreat the colonists. It goes on and on picking apart the aspects of the tyrannic rule of the king and he is an entire ocean away. These criteria are all the arguments the colonists need to argue the reason that they should be independent. Therefore, The Decleration of Independence is a great example of an evaluative argument, or evaluation paper! haha

Claim
Definition Paper Assigned...ahhh first paper, excitement of terror? Hmm, I honestly feel a mix of both. It has been a good year since I have written a paper. I cannot say that the papers written senior year were really good or real papers. I should go dig them up, because I feel like the papers in that class were not taken very seriously by teacher or student. Boy that was a fun class though. I did much better on the english part of the SATs than the math, however, I do not think that I can say the writting is my strong point. Although, I do LOVE to write and talk and read sometimes. Perhaps, this will be the year that I perfect my skills. So here we go!
When Peter Ferrara defines “American” he clearly shows that in order to truly define this term one cannot simply look into a dictionary to acquire the answer. In Ferrara’s case, the definition is, slash the argument he makes with his definition is in favor of the American principles and values (Everything’s an Argument p151). In Everything’s an Argument, it is said that a dictionary is just the starting point for an argument. Also in the book it says that a definition, in order to be persuasive, must broad and not tailored to the specific controversy (p155). Perhaps then, the definition of terrorism should follow those guidelines. Maybe then, there could be some form of consensus on what the word means. And maybe it is good that there are many different definitions because then there is a wider variety of ways to look at the word, and it can be used in many different ways. Thinking about that though, I realize that this can also be a very bad thing, because then the world cannot really use this word to make a CLEAR statement due to the fact that there are so many different ways to define it. The defintion of the word terrorism is a problem.
Bush Speech Response
Bush uses points to invite the American people to agree with his plan of action by reminding us what has happened that very terrible day which was September the eleventh of 2001. He mentions also that he will first ask the terrorists to comply and if they do not, then harsher action shall be taken. Since he makes this remark, its helps the public to agree with his action further more because he shows some softness to his plan.
This piece is all pathos, or at least that is what I concluded from reading it. Basically this piece mentions all the things that were bad for humans, and the rights that people all over the world have often had to live without. In these articles it states all the things that shall no longer occur, and when reading thing one sees that since this had to be written, theses things have occurred at some point in history, and are still occurring and this very thought it what I believe gives rise to the pathos in this piece.
I took a look at popular spreads in households. From the information posted on the popular spreads snapshot page, I can claim that peanut butter is the most popular spread in households because 74% have purchased this product in the past year. However, I can also claim that peanut butter is not the most popular spread because only 74% of households bought it the past year. I can also say that people do not eat much peanut butter and jelly anymore because of the total sample in this statistic, if 74% purchase peanut butter and another 33% and 34% buy preserves or jelly, that is saying that the households buying peanut butter are preferring peanut butter to jelly or preserves and therefore, they are not even eating the peanut butter with jelly or preserves. This must mean that peanut butter and jelly is not longer very popular among households who predominantly purchase peanut butter!
RESPONSE TO QUESTION
OK, so I am supposed to rewrite someone else's personal narritive so that it is about me. So...here is the original, WONDERWOMAN's :
I often compare myself to a spectrum I can go from one extreme to another. Some say I'm very caring and down to earth, while others say I am silly. A fun day to me can be a wild party or relaxing while reading a really interesting book. I'm always ready and willing to try something fun and new, as long as it won't hurt me. Are you wondering who "I" am? Well wonder no more I am Queenna Damour.
Just to say a little more about me, I'm from Queens, NY and I love The City. I'm the youngest of seven, which makes me arguementative. So I am sort of looking forward to the discussions in this class. Currently, my major is Nutrition but I want to change it to Forensic Science. I know you are probably thinking she watches too much Law and Order and CSI, but thats not the case with me I am honestly interested in Forensics.
I often compare myself to a spectrum I can go from one extreme to another. Some say I'm very caring and down to earth, while others say I am silly and spacey. A fun day to me can be a wild party, the BEACH, or relaxing while watching a good movie curled up in my many pillows and blankets, especially when it is cold outside. I'm always ready and willing to try something fun and new, as long as it won't kill me. Are you wondering who "I" am? Well wonder no more I am Kacey Yashchenko, Queenna Damour's roommate.
Just to say a little more about me, I'm from West Chester, Pa and I love My City, Philly!. I'm an only child, but I am NOT I repeat, I am NOT spoiled. Currently, my major is Nursing but I'm interested in Forensic Science, but I don't want to take math 140 for the major, so WHAT TO DO?! I know you are probably thinking she watches too much Law and Order and CSI, but thats not the case with me I am honestly interested in Forensics, and I watch too much family guy and friends.
I was completely amazed at the eloquence of Dr. King’s words. The reasoning, in my opinion, was clear and persuasive enough to convince a wall. Dr. King used pathos, logos, and ethos to really get his point across. On of he most effective moments I felt was the very compassion-evoking paragraph which described why the Negro population can no longer ‘wait’ to take some sort of action. This paragraph explain and describes many, though I am sure not all, horrors that the oppressed people have been enduring. The quote, “There comes a time when the cup of endurance runs over, and men are no longer willing to be plunged into the abyss of despair.” Really explains the situation being faced to the Negro population, and helps the reader to understand that the demonstrations could no longer wait. The paragraph used here is definitely pathos. Logos are used well too, for example when Dr. King quotes St. Augustine: “an unjust law is no law at all.” There are also many other occasions in which Dr. King uses powerful support to back up his claim that the demonstrations were indeed not done at the completely wrong time.
So we must go to buy this Everything's An Argument book. But hey! Queenna and I are going to share, PLUS her books are free this semester! AWESOME! Therefore, all we have to do is go to the Student Book Store at the HUB and get it! Easy as 1-2-3! DONE!
ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Technically you can look at just about anything as an argument. Any statement that anyone makes, any point of view is an argument. It can be discussed, and counterargument can be thrown at it. Even a picture can be an argument. You may stretch anything to fit the mold. IE OREO Cookies are great with milk. That is my argument for the day. If anyone has a counterargument, go ahead throw it at me. I am ready to defend my point of view.
Hey…
My name is Kseniya Vadimavna Yashchenko, but Kacey for short. I was born in Ukraine, hence my name. I am Russian, Ukrainian and Georgian-kind of a mutt. In Russia people give their children middle names which describe their father, therefore my dad’s name is Vadim, so my middle name translates daughter of Vadim…yeah, I know, it is long and hard to pronounce, but, hey, practice makes perfect…right? I currently live in West Chester, and Philly is my number one city, Go Eagles! I love football and PennState. I’ve been a cheerleader since seventh grade, and I am on the PennState club cheer team. I am recently obsessed with snowboarding, so if anyone doesn’t think Tussie Mountain is too small to snowboard, come out on Thursday nights because Thursdays are half off the lift ticket! Cheap is good…we’re COLLEGE students! I love movies, and warm places. I have never been to California, and it is my dream place to go to in America. I am in nursing, and I hope to work as a surgical nurse somewhere warm one day. I love the beach, and a great time! I am probably the slowest-moving person you will ever meet, so I leave you with this: ‘Haste makes waste, so TAKE YOU TIME, cuz life is sublime, and must be embraced!’
