Stop Blaming Music!

In today’s society, many people blame the community problems such as drugs, gangs or just crime in general on others. When I say others I am referring to celebrities, most of those that who are involved in violent movies and music. We always point the finger for our own actions and faults. How can music or movies cause the crime in our neighborhood?

Music and movies are created for entertainment; they were not made to corrupt the mind of the people. Adults often blame rappers for the things that young adults do because us young adults look up to these celebrities as role models. But what the older adults fail to realize is that drug deals; drug users; murderers; and poverty was were in this world before rappers and violent movies even came in play. So really, how can we blame people that are at least trying to do something with their life?

The music industry gets the most criticism. Artist in this field have to be careful about every thing that they say. Whatever they say is said to be negative in some way, shape, or form. This goes against the right of freedom speech and expression in numerous ways. Musicians should have the right to say what they want; this is their way of expressing their feelings. Most people express their selves though their work or though protest, therefore what is the difference? They just make a lot of money for their thoughts just as authors of books. Since I am apart part of the “generation from hell”, I think I have the right to say that just because we look up to celebrities does not mean we want to do what they say in their music. But do not get me wrong, there are some children or young adults that live their life word by word. For those that do wish olive to live their life by lyrics should not be allowed to listen to the records. Thaïs why there are “Adult Advisory” stickers on all explicit compact discs, ands also announced on the radio. It is really up to the parents or guardians tout to put their foot down and start to teach their children right from wrong.

Music should not have an effect a person; everyone has freewill so if they do something it is because they wanted to do it. Music is mostly talks of ideas, and it’s up to the person to deicide what that ideal means to them. Inman In many rap songs, the rappers talk of being drug dealers and that was the way they survived the streets. Most people that do not like rap music would say this is the reason why there are drug dealers in t he in the world today. But they do not realize the difference between the lyric and what they see on the actually streets. I am very aware of the fact that selling drugs are is illegal, but it has become apart a part of society. Many rapper states that they sold drugs to “help” get where they are today, but the youth today do not plan to go anywhere {Semi-colon after anywhere.} that is the difference. I am pretty sure that everyone used or at least heard of the saying “You have to do what you have to do to get where you want to be.” Like I have mentioned before, rapper’s words should not be taken to heart. No one should feel that the music is telling them to do something against the law or their will.

I have read many articles that always state the negative aspect of the music industry, but always fail to realize the positive side. A lot of artist gives artists give money to many communities not just their own to help to end poverty. The ex-rapper Jay-Z stated in a 2001 Vibe magazine, “Many artist give donations to the youth to help them do thing that they could do. We try to help out the supporters of our music to keep them out of trouble.” Even in more recent news, many artists gave to the foundations of the Hurricane Katrina and to the tragedy or September eleventh. These artists try to help in any way possible to get rid of the stereotypes. They are normal people that are trying to make a living just like the rest of us. I believe it is most of the media’s fault for these stereotypes. For one everybody watch or listen to the news, and what is on the news is supposed to be the “truth,” right. But do you ever see a rapper doing something with the children? The answer is no, all the news show is negative. Hey maybe we could of use the media as a scapegoat if rap music did not exist!

Music can not raise a child, so the people we need to blame for the community being so appalling is our selves. We did this to our world not the music. The next time you try to blame your child actions on today’s music ask him or her this question, “If (their favorite artists name) jump of off a bridge to kill themselves will you follow them.” I hope the answer will be no, but if your child answer differently you need to rethink your parental status. Knowing right from wrong start at home that is the reason we can not point the finger for our own faults. Once again music is entertainment, and without it we would bored. Look around its something that can bring us together through church, concerts, even block parties. Music is everywhere!
